Built from one man’s dream of a tranquil retreat, La Quinta Resort and Club has developed over the years into a Hollywood hideaway and golf player’s haven.
San Francisco businessman Walter H. Morgan was granted a federal land patent of 1,400 acres south of Point Happy Date Gardens.  Morgan enlisted the infamous architect Gordon B. Kaufmann along with scores of artisan craftsman to turn his vision into reality.  The La Quinta Hotel was soon born, made from more than 100,000 hand-formed adobe bricks and 60,000 locally fired roof tiles. The small collection of cozy casitas surrounding a quaint restaurant was the beginning of a legend, and soon enough, word got around amongst Hollywood’s finest that Morgan’s retreat in the desert was the ideal place to hide from the limelight that Hollywood imposed. The stars fled to La Quinta for the luxury of privacy and the beautiful location, each found the resort catered perfectly to their needs. Garbo wanted isolation. Gable came to socialize with friends. Frank Capra found creative inspiration and returned to his “Shangri-La of Screenwriting” repeatedly, eventually making it his home.

Since then, the legend of La Quinta Resort and Club has grown. You can now experience championship golf, world-class tennis, fine dining and blissful spa experiences, at this quintessential California resort.
